Par psyphi :: 13/12/2006 à 11:34 :: Google Summer Of Code 2006

This is a video I just received this morning. It is about the work of the Open Source Developers hired by Google. Guido van Rossum, inventor of Python, gave the first talk in the OSS Developers @ Google Speaker Series on "Mondrian: Code Review over the Web."

What reasons make Google spend such a lot of money for the SoC?

Par psyphi :: 21/08/2006 à 22:39 :: Google Summer Of Code 2006
I just read this interessant question on the google soc mailing list.
See the answer of Leslie Hospo from Google:

    The hardcore business reasons we do GSoC:

1) Free and Open Source Software help to ensure competition in the
software development market.  Competitiveness in software development
means that interested parties have incentive to produce high quality
code *and* keeps any single vendor from completely dominating a
particular market and locking out others out.

2) Google uses a lot of Free and Open Source Software - it's no secret
that our servers run Linux - and we want to give back to the FLOSS
communities, particularly since that means we can continue to use the
code they produce to make our products better.  (We also do a great
deal of funding of open source projects outside of GSoC.)

3) We're always looking for talented developers at Google.  By
successfully completing the program, you've shown that you're
interesting prospective candidate for an internship/position with
Google if that's of interest to you.
